what is the reason for dads divorcing
Dad's are often left without support during and after divorce. Their friendship group of shrinks throughout marriage and the new friendship groups formed often consist of the parents of their children's friends. Depending on the type of breakup these friendships can suddenly disintegrate and the dad can be left feeling alone.
The feeling of loneliness can overtake, the costs building up during divorce weigh heavy on dads minds and if they're seeing their children less can severely impact on their mental health. These can all lead to depression and a darkness only other dad's that have been through divorce can understand.
I set up Dad's Divorcing to help solve these issues, bringing people with similar experiences together and be able to meet, chat, share experiences, comfort and befriend other dads. I have been in this place myself, I know what it feels like and I had to help.
All you need to do is signup using your Google or Apple account and join the conversation #ITSOKTOTALK and it is imperative that we do talk and share what is happening. If there are dads that have been through similar experiences lets have your wisdom, share what went well and what didn't.
IRL or In Real Life meetings can be arranged on the site for your local area. Set up meetings for gym buddy's, football, golf, cycling, meals or have a beer and a chat.
why dads should support each other
Navigating divorce can leave you tired and depressed. You may start the slippery slope of drinking, doom scrolling and not engaging with people. This is such a damaging place for your mental health and will, in time, come crashing down.
Joining Dads Divorcing is your first step to building relationships with other dads who are in, or have been through the same things you're going through. The connections you make could be the first step to realigning yourself with what has, is and might happen going forward.
Getting first hand experience from people who have been through this will give you a grounded and real view of what can and does actually happen throughout the process. There are so many horror stories in the internet about child arrangements. Things that will make you think there is no point. They are often untrue or very unusual cases.
not just for dads going through divorce
Not only is this for dads to meet up, create meets for you and your children. Children can suffer throughout divorce and if their dad is suffering depression then their relationship can be strained. Feeling like going out with other parents may feel undoable because of the stigma, maybe your partner has spread things true, or untrue about you with other parents.
This can create a situation where your children will start to feel like they don't get the interaction and fun they do as with the other parent. You have a duty to keep parenting, keep the rules, don't spoil the children. You cannot do what I did and be afraid to parent, allow the children to get away with things they shouldn't. I was too lenient, I allowed my child to start ruling the roost, dictating to me bedtimes and just not being a strong and worthy parent.
Don't get me wrong, I was, and am a great dad, but I was too scared to parent in case the children thought it was more fun with mum. Mum was buying them everything they wanted, she took them to every place, made sure they had Christmas, birthdays, Halloween with her until the court orders kicked in. I was also worried that parenting to the correct standard mum might start making false claims and allegations that I was too harsh.
